After a hiatus of nearly 30 years, AFS returned to India in 2005 by sending the first group of 35 students to USA under the YES Scholarship Program, sponsored by the U.S. Department of Education and Culture.

Besides it, students were also sent on Partial Scholarship/World Program : 2 to Switzerland, 1 to Italy and 2 to Norway. In total, over 120 students applied from 15 different schools in three cities of India (Pune, Ahmedabad, Delhi).

In year 2006 AFS India sent 32 students to USA, 3 to Japan, 1 to Hong Kong, 2 to Switzerland and 1 to Italy; in year 2007 AFS India sent 41 students to USA, 3 to Japan and 1 to Brazil.

This year, in 2008 we are sending 41 students to USA, 3 to Switzerland, 2 to Italy, 1 to Thailand, 1 to France, 1 to New Zealand, 1 to Australia and 8 to Japan.

AFS India, with parent volunteers from eight cities (Ahmedabad, Baroda, Delhi, Mumbai, Pune, Bangalore, Chennai and Jamshedpur) is organizing and planning for the 2009-10 cycle in order to continue with the sending program to various countries and also to host students from other countries on various programs.
