Q: What do AFS Volunteers ACTUALLY do?
A: AFS Volunteers…
• Act as a representative for AFS in your local school or community, making school presentations, interviewing participants, and/or potential host families
• Coordinate mailings, produce news about activities at your local chapter for our newsletter, help organize fundraising events, help plan and organize activities for hosted participants, serve as a friendly contact for AFS Participants hosted in your community
• Have the opportunity for leadership roles at the local, area, regional and national levels
Q: What’s my time commitment/involvement to AFS if I do become a Volunteer?
A: Some volunteer positions are ongoing leadership positions while others are short-term or one-time tasks.
• Interview host families or participants
• Represent AFS at a community booth
• Plan a cultural activity for international participants
• Advocate for increased support for international exchange programs
• Mentor and support a local host family and their participant through their year together
Q: What other resources could a Volunteer provide to AFS?
A: Making a contribution to AFS is another way to help.
• Provide meeting space for AFS Groups
• Sponsor outreach activities for families and participants
• Share your cultural and international knowledge with AFSers and their families
• Contribute services such as copying, faxing, advertising, or photography

• Publicize AFS in your local media
• Contribute your technical or computer expertise
• Provide consultations on project planning, training, or organizing special events
